Tim's Biography

Tim Richards is a 21 year old native of Mount Airy, MD. He is a rising Senior majoring in Philosophy at Haverford College. He was inspired to start Citizens for a Green Mount Airy in January, 2007 while contemplating the best way to help solve the world’s environmental problems. Since then, he has worked tirelessly to promote sustainability, starting right at home in his community. He is most passionate about sustainability in the areas of food, energy, community and economy, which he spends the majority of his time working for.

He took Spring semester off in 2008 to work full time on promoting and achieving sustainability to help get his ideas off the ground and implement his visions into realities. He feels that there is no greater challenge facing the human species than making civilization sustainable and that the multiple ecological crises that we face demand immediate action for sustainable solutions using all of our intellectual, economic, scientific, technological, political, and social capacity. After all, it’s a sustainable future or no future at all; he is committed to achieving the former.

In addition to continuing his efforts with CGMA, Tim has served on the Board of Directors for the first annual Maryland Heartland Sustainable Living fair, a green living/ environmental education festival that was held on May 24 from 9am-5pm at the Carroll County Farm Museum in Westminster. He also serves on the town's Beautification commission.
